From Teacher to Artist

As an elementary school teacher, I have always enjoyed including art and food into my lessons. When teaching Social Studies, I found it to be a natural extension to allow students to express themselves by recreating art from a particular culture and to include food from that part of the country as they learned about these particular people during the era they were studying. Hopefully, my former students will remember these times with fondness, and make connections that will help them remember what they learned.

Sadly, for many, the time and inclination may disappear as they move forward with their busy lives.  Teaching kept me so busy that I rarely had time to allow that artistic spark to ignite, nor did I have the time to fan those flames. Now that I am retired, I have more opportunities to dabble in an art form that is suitable for the space and time that I have available. Since moving to Prescott, Arizona, I also have the opportunity to see many other types of artistic expression that I may consider trying. At a recent Art show, I discovered Glass art, silver cla art, and many other media that I would love to try. I have even picked up my Native American Flute that has for so long, languished in a drawer.  With luck, I will keep as busy as I was before I retired.
